Cruising the USA in the all new Chevrolet Cruze Review

A letter written from a Gamblin Motors Customer on there cross country trip!

On Monday, September 26, 2011, I began what was to become a 7400 mile – 2 1/2 week road trip taking me from Enumclaw, WA through 22 states plus the District of Columbia – a “coast to coast to coast”, around the USA adventure. I traveled east via the I90-I94 corridor and basically returned by way of the I70 route (formerly US 66) with some deviations. This was primarily a personal/family-oriented trip.

The highlight of this trip was that I was driving a rented 2011 Chevrolet Cruze, fairly well loaded with accessories. The purpose of this trip summary is to express my extreme pleasure with this automobile. I think that the Cruze is the best car, overall, that I have ever had the experience of driving. The car performed exceptionally in all environments – from 34 degree, high altitude areas (Montana and New Mexico) to 95 degree, mid-Texas areas. Rain and snow (Chinook Pass, WA) didn’t alter the performance or experience. I was kept at comfortable temperature levels in the driver’s seat with the easy-to-use controls. The entertainment center, primarily using XM Satellite radio or with my attached iPhone/iPod, kept me informed and musically satisfied. There were stretches of highway along the way that I reached the advertised 42 mpg. I mostly averaged about 35-38 mpg throughout the trip. Wow! This Cruze is a wonderful car and Chevrolet should be very proud of their product.

Gamblin Motors New Owners Clinic

It’s not too often that the place to be at Gamblin Motors is in the body shop. But for this ‘New Owners Clinic’ that was the case. The purpose of the clinic was to explain that at Art Gamblin motors when you buy a vehicle with them that not all she wrote. It should be your location for any vehicle needs. Whether you get in a collision and need auto repair or your car gets dirty and you need to get it washed it should be the center for all car services Seattle. Tom Rockwood who is in charge of financing at the Enumclaw Dealership explained the advantages of extending your service agreement. Or how they are very competitive with tire sales and can mark them down. Also the fact that even if you don’t have a Chevy you can feel free to bring your cars in for repair or maintenance. But there were also several light hearted festivities going on such as raffling off some Chevy attire like hats and sweatshirts. Even Alan Gamblin threw some trivia to the audience asking who was on the 20 dollar and when answered correctly was given that 20! But hold on nobody left with empty stomach it was a catered dinner by the always delicious Enumclaw Mazatlan Mexican Restaurant. So what can we take away from this? If you purchase a vehicle here then its your one stop destination for any Tacoma area vehicle problems and always know your presidents cause you never know when you could win some money off it.

Enumclaw Homecoming game sponsored by Gamblin Motors

With the stands at Pete’s Pool filled to the max, it was a loud venue for the visiting Auburn Mountain View Lions. That didn’t stop them from coming out of the gates fired up. They drew first blood to take a 7-0 lead 7 minutes into the first quarter. The Hornets’ 12th Man stayed loud and positive which motivated junior Bryson Grant to get a nice kick return to set up the Enumclaw offense. That was eventually stopped by the Lions with an interception.

The second quarter came up fast and the Hornet defense was caught off guard and allowed another Auburn Mountain View touchdown only 2 minutes in to the second. The Hornets’ offense has some struggles this year but turned it around this drive as a couple runs by sophomore back Cameron Strecker set up a Quarterback Scramble from Tyler Carlson. The stands got loud as they got to show off what Enumclaw spirit really looked like while the homecoming bell and siren went off to add to the noise of the celebration.

6 minutes remained in the half as the hornets looked to give the ball back to the lions. But it was all downhill for the rest of the first half for the Hornets.  The Lions had an untouched kick return to make the score 21-7 in favor of Mountain View. The Enumclaw offense came out looking to repeat what happened last time but came short and went 4 and out. The hot and fired up Lion’s offense took the field and with some nice passes led to another touchdown in the air.

Hold on. The end of the chaotic finish of the first half did not end yet. With less than 20 seconds on the clock, Enumclaw threw an interception to the linebacker of the Lions who ran until tackled by Tyler Carlson and Erick Ritzdorf on their own 2. That setup the last play of the first half which was a quick slant route scoring for Lions. The ending score of the first half was 34-7. The Hornets trying to defend their title of never losing to Auburn Mountain View was on the line. How would they finish?

After the homecoming halftime festivities came to a conclusion, the Hornets and Lions came back out on to the new turf to find the relatively same story as the first half.  The only score of the 3rd quarter was a result of a touchdown reception from the 6’2 junior wide receiver Adam Cosgrove. Could it be the turning point of the game? Well in the early minutes of the 4th, the lions QB did a little 2 yard sneak to poke it in the end zone to pad the lead in their favor.

After some good defensive drives from both sides, Auburn Mountain View scored for the last time of the game to make their lead to 48-14. But the sophomore running back Cameron Strecker had enough to motivate him to power his way up the field and to get the 6 points and final score of Enumclaw. Enumclaw goes on to make the PAT to make the final score 48-21 Auburn Mountain View. That’s all she wrote at Pete’s Pool this year for Enumclaw’s homecoming game sponsored by Art Gamblin motors.

See The USA In Your Chevrolet

From Alan Gamblin

Dinah Shore just about got my Dad (Art Gamblin) thrown in Jail.  Well at least her theme song, “See The USA In Your Chevrolet,” did.  For seven seasons Dinah belted that song out on TV.  It was in the early 1960’s, my father Art Gamblin was a Chevy dealer in Bonners Ferry Idaho and every dealer received a horn for their demonstrator that played the notes to that song.  We Gamblin kids took great glee in hearing it, but we had to be sneaky. The Police had taken exception to the noisy melody and had threatened to throw Dad in jail if they caught him playing that tune.  So the Gamblin’s were stealthful about honking that horn… at least in Idaho.

Washington was a different story.  In 1965 Art, Jack Parker, Bob Nelson and their wives traveled to Seattle to watch their beloved Idaho Vandals play the Washington Huskies in football.  After a humiliating loss, they went to dinner at the Canlis restaurant overlooking Lake Union.  After giving the valet the keys to his Impala demonstrator, Dad said with a wink, “what ever you do, don’t push the red button.”  No sooner had they walked through the door than “See the USA” blared from the horn.  The Valet figured out that tips were better if he shared the secret of the red horn button. The car never moved from in front of the restaurant and “see the USA in your Chevrolet” played all night.

In Idaho, the police finally won the car horn battle and Dad gave the beloved horn to his fellow Chevy dealer, Jack Parker who put it on his boat.  The song lives on and was recently resurrected and performed by the cast of the TV show Glee.  Below is the cast of Glee singing my favorite theme song.  Remember, Dinah is still the only girl that can blow Chevy kisses.

Seattle Chevrolet Dealer Gets First Chevrolet Volt

Art Gamblin Motors a Chevrolet Dealer serving the greater Seattle area has been one given one of the first 2012 Chevrolet Volts in the area.  In an agreement with Chevrolet; Gamblin has dedicated the first car for demonstrations purposes, giving people the opportunity to drive this new technology.  So far the car has used $11.00 worth of gas in 552 miles or is getting 173 miles to the gallon.  Alan Gamblin points out that it would be getting better mileage if they hadn’t forgotten to plug it in two nights.

As one of the first Seattle Chevrolet Dealers to get the Volt we are excited to have anyone come take this vehicle for a spin.

The Chevrolet Volt uses electricity to move the wheels at all times and speeds.  For trips around 38 miles, the Volt is powered only by electricity stored in its 16-KWh, lithium-ion battery.  When the battery’s energy is depleted, a gasoline engine seamlessly powers the generator providing electricity to power the Volt’s electric drive.  This extends the range of the Volt for an additional 300+ miles without stopping until the battery can be re-charged.  Unlike the competition, the Volt eliminates “range anxiety,” giving the confidence and peace of mind that the driver won’t be stranded by a depleted battery.  Because of the backup gasoline engine, Volt may be taken across country on vacation.

Seattle Chevrolet Volt

Volt can be plugged either into a standard household 110v outlet or use 240v for charging. The vehicle’s intelligent charging technology enables the Volt’s battery to recharge in eight hours using a standard house hold outlet.  A full charge costs about $1.00 per day in electricity and will consume less electric energy than the average home’s refrigerator and freezer unit.

Gamblin’s agreement is to have a Volt on hand to drive for the next six months.  So please come and drive this car.

GM adds a new center airbag to better vehicle safety

Have you ever heard the saying ‘the more the merrier’ or ‘safety first?’ Well those were probably two things that went through the head of GM when developing the idea of a center airbag. But this wasn’t just created just for the fun of it. It functions to prevent passengers of the vehicle from clashing into each other on impact with another vehicle. The new device is set to be introduced as standard equipment on models like the Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia with power seats beginning in the 2013 model year. The tethered, tube-shaped airbag deploys from the right side of the driver’s seat and positions itself in the center of the vehicle. Side impacts are the main causes of these incidents, but this is set to improve that. But hey, you can’t complain for being a little extra safe when driving behind the wheel. Even if safety’s first with these cars, style comes in a close second!

Art Gamblin Motors Announces New Look For Chevrolet Dealership

Art Gamblin MotorsArt Gamblin Motors is pleased to announce an image upgrade to their Chevrolet and Buick dealership in Enumclaw.  This remodel will consist of integrating a new Chevrolet entry with new interior flooring and finishes.  A new drive-in Service Reception area will be constructed which will allow service customers to keep out of the wind and rain when bringing in their cars for maintenance and repair.

Gamblin reports that this new look aligns with Chevrolet dealerships across the country.  It promotes a new clean brand image by incorporating aluminum composite materials on the outside of the building with consistent colors and finishes on the inside of  the building.

The owner, Alan Gamblin says, “This undertaking is a big investment, but Chevrolet has a bonus program to reimburse our dealership.  With our Chevy sales up 66% this year we anticipate a full return on our investment over the next four years of the program.  Most people don’t realize that we built this building almost 25 years ago.  Because a lot of thought and planning took place 25 years ago when we built the building, we will be able to continuing to service and sell vehicles during the remodel without any inconvenience to our customers.”

Construction for the update starts the week of October 17th and will take four months to complete.  The contract was awarded to a commercial contractor, Donovan Brothers of Auburn.  Art Gamblin Motors expressed their thanks to the City of Enumclaw for being so helpful with this project.
