2012 Chevrolet Volt vs Nissan Leaf

2012 Chevrolet Sonic vs Nissan Leaf The Nissan Leaf is an all electric, 5-door hatchback. Because the Leaf doesn’t use any kind of range extender like the Chevrolet Volt—the driver must carefully plan their routine around the Leaf’s 73 mile range. Otherwise the driver of a Leaf will find themselves stranded.  The Leaf comes is two trim packages: SV and SL.

Power and Performance: The Chevrolet Volt is rated at 149 horsepower whereas the Nissan Leaf has only 107 horsepower making a 42 horsepower difference! The Volt also produces 66 lb.-ft more maximum torque than the Leaf! The Volt has superior steering over the Leaf as a result of the power steering being mounted directly to the steering rack. The Leaf has nothing similar to this. Range anxiety is not a concern with the Volt’s impressive 379 mile driving range as opposed to the Leaf’s maximum driving range of 73 miles. The Battery of the volt is cooled using a liquid thermal system superior to the Leaf’s air cooled battery. The Volt also charges twice as fast as the Leaf using a 120V charger! The Leaf comes with 16” wheels as opposed to the Volts standard 17” wheels. The Chevy Volt also has top speeds of 100 mph which is 10 more mph than the Leaf’s top speed! 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Safety: The Chevrolet Volt has 8 airbags standard versus the Leaf which only has 6 airbags and no front-knee protection. The Volt has automatic daytime running lamps and OnStar automatic crash response—the Leaf has nothing similar to these features. TheThe Chevrolet Volt weighs 400 pounds more than the Nissan Leaf. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states that heavier vehicles are significantly faster than their lighter counterparts. This is one of many factors that have allowed the Volt to easily achieve higher crash test safety ratings than the Nissan Leaf by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Quality, Reliability and Durability: The Volt comes with free roadside assistance. Nissan doesn’t offer any free roadside assistance for the Leaf. Chevrolet’s powertrain warranty covers the Volt 40,000 miles longer than Nissan covers the Leaf. The Volt’s corrosion warranty is also 1 year longer than the Leaf’s. Also an important consideration for Chevrolet’s superior warranty is that there are nearly 4 times as many Chevrolet dealers as there are Nissan dealers, making it much easier to get warranty work done on the Volt than the Leaf. Furthermore, a J.D. Power and Associates’ 2011 survey shows Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than Nissan vehicles in initial and long-term quality and reliability.

Awards: Consumer Reports recommends the Chevrolet Volt, based on reliability, safety and performance. The Volt was chosen as one of Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” in 2011, while the Leaf has never made this list. Motor Trend selected the Volt as their 2011 Car of the Year, an award the Leaf has never received. The Volt was chosen by Automobile Magazine as their 2011 Car of the Year. The Leaf has never received this award.

2012 Chevrolet Volt Review & Overview

We are confident here at Art Gamblin Motors that the Chevrolet Volt is a revolutionary vehicle in its own right. The Volt is also clearly unparalleled by all its competition. The Volt is capable of running totally on its battery for 35 miles. After that the Volt seamlessly transitions to it’s high efficiency gas powered generator and energy extrapolating brake system; charging the Volt’s battery while running and easily allowing the Volt to travel another 344 miles. That means the Chevy Volt can travel 379 miles before its needs to be charged or filled up again! This means the Volt will never give you “range anxiety” of running out of energy and being stranded. This is a real concern for drivers of the Nissan Leaf and Ford Focus Electric, which do not use any kind of range extenders like the Chevy Volt’s on-board generator. At the same time, you can easily commute 35 miles a day with the Volt and never use a drop of gasoline or produce any tailpipe emissions; all for about 1.50$ a day in electricity costs. While the farthest the Toyota Prius can travel on battery only is one mile. And even this must be done at low speeds!

The Chevrolet Volt is also capable of going 0-60 in less than 9 seconds and can achieve speeds of 101 Mph with its 149 horsepower electric motor. This means that the Chevy Volt handles like a midsize sedan equipped with a 250 horsepower V6! None of the Chevrolet Volt’s competition even comes close to offering this level of power, performance and efficiency. Regardless of the Volt’s inferior competition—it is an excellent vehicle in its own right. The Chevrolet Volt has a 5-star National Highway Traffic Safety Administration overall safety rating and an Insurance Institute of Highway Safety Top Safety Pick award—making the Volt a very safe vehicle to drive. The Chevy Volt offers excellent handling and comfort with ultimate media connectivity, which makes the Volt responsive and fun to drive!

All of this excellence in design is packaged in a sleek high-tech style, making the Volt a unique and beautiful sedan. The future of driving is here at Art Gamblin Motors in Enumclaw Washington. 2012 Chevrolet Volt vs 2012 Ford Focus Electric

2012 Chevrolet Volt vs Ford Focus The Ford Focus Electric is the electric hatchback interpretation of the original gas-powered Ford Focus. It was therefore not designed from the beginning to be an electric vehicle, but rather adapted from the gasoline-powered model. As an all-electric vehicle it requires careful trip planning since you will be stranded when the vehicle reaches its maximum driving range.

Power and Performance: The Volt’s 149 horsepower rated motor has 26 more horsepower and 92 more lb.-ft of torque than the Focus! The driving range of the Volt is 379 miles as opposed to the 100 mile range of the Ford Focus. It takes 20 hours to charge a Focus on a 120V connection and only 10 to charge a Volt on the same connection! Because the Volt was designed from the start to be an electric vehicle, as opposed to the Ford Focus Electric’s adaptation from the gasoline powered model, the Volt is much more efficient in its design. This has resulted in much better handling and performance, evidenced by the Volt’s top speed of 100 mph versus the Focus’ top speed of only 84 mph. The Volt’s superior design also grants it greater roominess inside the vehicle providing a comfortable ride as well as more cargo space.

Connectivity: The Volt offers the Chevrolet MyLink system with voice recognition and direct connectivity to online programs such as Pandora. The Chevy Volt also offers the full suite of OnStar services including turn-by-turn directions, hands-free calling and many more excellent features. The Focus offers nothing comparable to these features.

Safety: The Volt has 8 standard airbags as opposed to the Ford Focus Electric’s 6 airbags, which completely fail to provide any knee protection. The Volt also has the added protection of the OnStar Automatic Crash Response system that finds no equivalent in the Ford Focus Electric.

Quality, Reliability and Durability: Chevrolet’s powertrain warranty covers the Volt 40,000 miles longer than Ford covers the Focus Electric. The Volt’s corrosion warranty is also 1 year longer than the Ford Focus Electric.

Awards: Consumer Reports recommends the Chevrolet Volt, based on reliability, safety and performance. The Volt was also been chosen as one of Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” in 2011. Motor Trend selected the Volt as their 2011 Car of the Year. The Volt was even chosen by Automobile Magazine as their 2011 Car of the Year.

We are all certain at Art Gamblin Motors that the Chevrolet Volt certainly outperforms the Ford Focus Electric in every way.
