What is the Buckley Log Show?
Nestled in historic Buckley, Washington—just under the gaze of Mount Rainier—the Buckley Log Show is a beloved long-standing tradition celebrating the region’s rich logging heritage. Since the city’s early days as a timber town, this annual event has grown into one of Pierce County’s premier summer spectacles, drawing competitors, families, and lumberjack enthusiasts from across the Pacific Northwest
A Look Back: History & Tradition
Humble beginnings: Originally called Buckley Loggers Rodeo in 1973, held behind Viz’s in Buckley, the show outgrew its first home by 1990 and relocated to its current grounds by the National Guard building and Week’s Funeral Home
Founding visionaries: Community leaders like Ron Brannon, John Blanusa, Ron Bowen, Ron Kunz, and Gordon Juhl started the event, with dedicated volunteers such as Elmer Timmons and Gene & Karen Rawson guiding its evolution
Brewed from a horse trailer: In early years, beer was sold from a horse trailer courtesy of Leon Wickizer—today’s beer garden is a staple gathering space for adults
Honoring timber pioneers: A cherished feature is the “Bull of the Woods” award, given to retired loggers. Honorees are celebrated at a dinner and invited to share memories edge-of-ring during the competition

Over five decades later, the show remains a vibrant testament to the logging life, blending athletic competition with heartfelt community celebration
