The Silverado’s leaf springs have an extra wide design, which allow them to handle much more weight. The HD’s rear leaf springs are also asymmetrically designed. This means that the rear section of each spring is longer than the front section which allows them to handle the high torque output of the Silverado HD engine and effectively reduces axel hop. Chassis cab models of the HD still use a conventional non asymmetrical rear suspension—but still include wider springs. This superior new rear end suspension design allows the Silverado HD 2500 to carry 6,200 pounds of weight on its rear axel.
